: Samples and data on the base population were collected according to Hendrix Genetics protocols and by or under the supervision of Hendrix Genetics employees. Samples and data were collected as part of routine data collection in commercial breeding programs for layer chickens. Samples and data were collected on breeding nuclei of Hendrix Genetics for breeding purposes and which are a non-experimental, agricultural practice. Thus, an ethical review was not required. No extra discomfort was caused by sample collection for the purpose of this study.

: This study was in-kind financed by Hendrix Genetics. KP and JV are employed by Hendrix Genetics. KP and JV were involved in this study by providing the datasets, discussing the analyses and the results. The datasets are of interest to commercial targets of Hendrix Genetics, but this interest did not influence the results in this manuscript in any matter. Except for the delivered data and the results reported in this project or for other projects, no other shared interests (e.g., employment, consultancy, patents, products) exist between Hendrix Genetics, Wageningen University & Research, Technical University of Munich, and INRAE. All other authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationship that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest.
