Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All animal studies were performed in compliance with the Dutch law on animal experimentation (Wet op dierproeven, Wod / Directive 2010/63/EU of the European parliament and of the council of 22 September 2010 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes). The study design was authorized by the Technical Committee of the SKV (Foundation for Quality Guarantee Veal Sector) on the 4th of February 2015, document TC15. Animals were placed under regular agricultural care according to the regulations of the Integrated Chain Management System (IKB) and regular clinical veterinary practices according to the general rules laid down in Council Directive 98/58/EC. Animal transport and handling during transport was compliant to EU directive 1/2005/EG and 1255/97/EG.
