Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethics approval was obtained by the Regierung von Oberbayern (Sachgebiet 54) for taking blood samples from female piglets of matings between two herdbook German Landrace gilts carrying the BMP15 variant and a German Landrace insemination boar also carrying the mutation. Approval was also obtained for slaughter after gaseous stunning with carbon dioxide at the age of 6 months for examining the uteri and ovaries. Ethical approval was not necessary otherwise because analyses were performed on existing data and DNA obtained for routine genomic breeding value estimation of the Bavarian pig breeding association.
