: This study did not require any ethical approvals from the ethical committee of the National School of Veterinary Medicine for Animal Experimentation (NSVMAE) because the blood samples used for the study were collected by trained veterinary surgeons. Blood samples and ticks were collected using standard veterinary procedures in full respect of animal welfare and minimizing stress to the animals following the guidelines for the care and use of animals of the Tunisian National Council of Veterinary Surgeons. The blood was also sampled from the animals in the presence of their owners who provided verbal informed consent for their sampling according to the Charter of the Ethical Committee of the NSVMAE.
