: Written consent for the acquisition and use of chinchillas was obtained from Rausher Chinchilla Ranch (LaRue, Ohio). Animal care and all procedures were performed under a protocol approved by the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute Animal Care and Use Committee (Protocol #01304AR) and in compliance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Strain CCRI-195ME was recovered from a patient undergoing surgery for tympanostomy tube insertion, after obtaining written Informed Consent from patient’s guardian. Consent forms and study protocols were approved by the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Institutional Review Board (protocol #0312HS196).
