: Ethical approval was obtained from the NHS Research Ethics Committee (IRAS project ID: 276438 REC reference: 20/YH/0082) and Research and Development approval from East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS). All methods in this study were performed in accordance with the relevant UK guidelines and regulations, including complying with NHS Research Ethics Committee guidance, Good Clinical Practice, and the Data Protection Act (2018). The study was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04243200 on 27 January 2020. Informed consent was obtained from all participants before participation to the survey and interviews. For the survey, consent was obtained online for staff participants and in written, paper format for people with diabetes. For interviews, both written (before the interviews took place) and verbal (at the beginning of the interview) consent were obtained from both ambulance staff members and people with diabetes.
