: Ethical approval for the study was granted by the Human Biology Research Ethics Committee, University of Cambridge (HBREC.2019.14). Informed consent was obtained from all study participants before survey completion.Word clouds were generated in collaboration with Myelopathy Support, an arm of Myelopathy.org, which is an international DCM charity. Ethical approval was not required for the involvement of the Myelopathy Support members as their role was to help to develop the word clouds for the survey and they were not research participants. The AO Spine RECODE-DCM Management group has members who are people with DCM. These members had significant input into the design of this study, the refinement of online poll data and the creation of a protocol for implementation into the AO Spine RECODE-DCM study.All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. All RECODE-DCM protocols were approved by AO Spine. Informed consent was obtained from all RECODE-DCM participants before survey completion.
