Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The Keele Aches and Pains (KAPS) study from which the data were derived for this current study, obtained all the necessary ethical regularly permissions for the conduct of research on patients within the healthcare system of the UK (South East Scotland Research Ethics Committee - REC ref. 14/SS/0083), this ethical approval was for the KAPS study and subsequent research using KAPS data. As this current study carried out secondary data analysis of the KAPS cohort and so did not require direct ethical approval, however this study did make formal requests to the KAPS study team and data custodian and this process was reviewed as per the Research Institute for Primary Care and Health Sciences data sharing agreement (ExternalRef removed).
