Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects. Ethical approval for the trial was granted by the East of England Cambridge East Research Ethics Committee (ref: 15/EE/0061). All participants provided written informed consent for their involvement. Where concern was expressed during follow-up by the subject, carer or investigator as to whether they should continue in the study due to cognitive decline, and thus being able to give informed consent, the ethics committee asked for the subject to be assessed independently of the trialists by the local dementia network team and their legal guardian as to whether it was in the subjects best interest to continue in the study. In no cases during the study was this necessary.
