Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Joint Edward Francis Small Teaching hospital and university of The Gambia ethics committee.Written informed consent was obtained from all participants before enrolling in the study. Client’s anonymity was maintained throughout the study. Clients were identified by code numbers only. No client was denied any form of services upon refusal of consent, nor was client promised facilitated services to coerce her into giving consent. Women who are found to be positive were to be referred to liver clinic soon after delivery for further management. It was ensured that all those who participated in study had their birth dose for hepatitis B vaccine especially those who were found to be positive.
