Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical approval of the study protocol was obtained from the Ghana Health Service Ethical Review Committee (Protocol ID NO: GHS-ERC 21/12/16). Permission was obtained from the District Director of Health Services and the District Health Management team and the management of the health facilities. Written informed consent was obtained from all the study participants before their participation in the study. Parents or guardians of participants less than 18 years consented for their children to take part in the study and assent given by the minors before questionnaire administration and sample collection. Test results were disclosed to participants except in the case of minors in which case the parent/guardian was informed of the results. No monetary compensation was paid for participating in the study, however, those who tested positive were treated free of charge.
