: This study was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The Research Ethics Committee of Kerman University of Medical Sciences reviewed and approved the study protocol (ethics code IR.KMU.REC.1400.270). The procedure of obtaining informed consent was approved by the Kerman University of Medical Sciences ethics committee. Participants were informed about the objectives, procedures, and anonymous nature of data collection. Informed consent from patients or families before the data collection from their clinical files and at the bedside was obtained in the longitudinal study. Moreover, Informed consent was obtained from the infection control nurses (ICNs) before the interview in the qualitative study. All methods were conducted in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. The Iranian nosocomial infection surveillance protocols were followed in the collection of all information and experiments for the longitudinal study.
