: Both health providers and women in labor provided verbal consent to birth observation. All instruments used in the data collection and for observed deliveries, pre- and post-training evaluations (including the participants’ informed consent forms), and the study protocol for the original study (Reference 845), as well as additional data gathering and analysis on individual providers (Reference 733) were reviewed and approved by the Ethics and Research Committees of the National Institute of Public Health in Cuernavaca, Mexico. State-level authorities from the Ministry of Health provided the necessary permissions for the study and data collection. The original trial is registered at ExternalRef removed: NCT01477554.
