: Roselyter Riang’a is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Psychology, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Moi University, Kenya. She is also a PhD candidate of Maternal Nutrition and Health at Athena Institute for Research on Innovation and Communication, in the Faculty Science, at the VU University Amsterdam, Prof. Anne Nangulu is the director of quality assurance at the Commission for University Education (CUE) in Kenya and also a professor of economic history at Moi University, Kenya. Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Broerse is Professor of Innovation and Communication at the VU University, Amsterdam in the Health and Life Sciences. She is also the Research Director of the Faculty of Sciences, VU University, Amsterdam.
: Ethical approval was granted by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) (NACOSTI/P/15/2335/5353; 2-Apr-2015) in Kenya, local authorities and the respondents to carry out the study. The study was explained to each respondent and they all provided written, informed consent to participate. The respondents’ identity was kept anonymous and their responses confidential.
