Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Participation in MES was voluntary. The protocol of MES has been reviewed by the Health Canada’s Science Advisory Board and Research Ethics Board and the Federal Privacy Commissioner and approved by the Statistics Canada’s Policy Committee. Access to the MES was obtained through the Research Data Centre at York University, approved by the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada. Since this project was based on secondary data analysis of MES, institutional ethics approval was not required.
