Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) of both Tulane University and the Medical Ethical Commission of Suriname’s Ministry of Health (VG 023–14). Potential participants received documentation describing all aspects of the MeKiTamara study (e.g. content, benefits, risks, incentives). All women included in this study (<i>n</i> = 204) provided written informed consent. Assent was obtained from participants 16 or 17 years of age.
