: The study protocol was reviewed and approved by the school of health sciences research and ethics committee and the national council for science and technology, SHSREC REF No. 2020–026 and HS780ES, respectively. Administrative clearance was sought from all the district health officers and the heads of the participating facilities. In our context, all pregnant women or mothers who are less than 18 years are considered emancipated minors and allowed to make decisions concerning their health and that of their children. Therefore, in this study, the IRB authorized us to treat all participants who were aged less than 18 years as emancipated minors (since they were already mothers) who could give informed consent for their participation in the study. Written informed consent was obtained from all the participants before they were enrolled into the study. Participants were aware that they could withdraw from the study at any time during the study. All study procedures were conducted according to the relevant regulations and guidelines.
