: Institutional approval was obtained from the Makerere University School of health sciences higher degrees’ research and ethics committee (MAKSHSREC REF:2016-044) and the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (HS773ES). Administrative clearance from the district health officers and health facility administrators was obtained. Written informed consent was also obtained from all midwives before being interviewed.
