: The study analysed data from the Newborn Emergency Outcome Study. The ethical committee at the Zanzibar Health Research institute approved both the study protocol and questionnaires (NO.ZAHREC/02/August/2019/30). Informed consent by women was given in written form and could be retrieved at any time. All health workers involved with the maternity unit consented to participate in the study. All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations (declaration of Helsinki).
