: All data was collected in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. This study was approved by South-East Regional Ethics Committee (REC) in Norway, 28.01.2010. An update with confirmation of the approval was given 26.04.2018 to extend the projects length and include a new PhD student. The reference number is 2010/109a. A waiver of individual informed consent was granted by the by South-East Regional Ethics Committee because the research involved minimal risk to the women involved and the waiver was not felt to adversely affect the rights and welfare of the included women. The reason for this waiver of individual consent was that it would be a less optimal study without it (mainly due to large sample size and anticipated significant loss of study subjects), and that it would beneficial to the group of labouring women to execute the project. Results are reported according to STROBE guidelines for observational research.
