The trial conformed to Good Clinical Practice guidelines, the Declaration of Helsinki, and applicable local laws. All patients provided written informed consent, which included consent for biomarker analyses. Analysis of PTEN protein expression required additional tissue and therefore a separate written patient consent, and these analyses were conducted only in patients who provided this consent.
