Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and the Finnish legislation for the use of tissue specimens and associated clinical information. The use of retrospectively collected TMAs and associated clinical information as well as prospectively collected glioblastoma samples for cell culture was authorized by the Auria Biobank (AB16–7409) and the Institutional Review Board of the Hospital District of Southwest Finland. According to the Finnish Biobank Law (688/2012), use of archived tissue specimens can be authorized by a Biobank steering committee (individual patient consent is not required). For the prospective part of the study in which cell lines were established from glioblastoma samples, individual patients had given a written Biobank consent statement before surgery. This consent includes cell culture from tissue specimens for medical research; in accordance with the Finnish Biobank Law, a separate ethics statement was not required.
