: Non-tumorous control brain tissue samples (N1-N5) were obtained during the surgery of intractable epilepsy patients at the National Institute of Mental Health and Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. The samples were obtained after informed and written consent was taken from all the patients, prior to the initiation of the study. The tissues were snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at − 80 °C and used for RNA isolation. All methods and experimental protocols adopted in this study are in accordance with the guidelines approved by the institutional biosafety clearance committee of NIMHANS, Bangalore, and IISc, Bangalore. The study has been approved by the ethics committee of the NIMHANS and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). In the present study, control brain tissue sample-derived RNA was used to measure PTGFRN transcript levels.
