: All experimental procedures and the tissue harvesting process included proper consent and approval, complied with the Declaration of Helsinki and were approved by the institutional review board. Ethics approval for the project of the isolation, study and cultivation of postmortem human eye tissue, number 734–16, was granted by the Ethics committee by the Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich, (Head: Prof. Dr. Eisenmenger) (Ethikkommission bei der Medizinischen Fakultät der LMU München, Pettenkoferstr. 8, 80336 München, Germany). Consent for the donation and scientific use of the human donor tissue in conformity with the declaration of Helsinki was given either prior to their death by the donors themselves or post-mortem by the next of kin.
