: The Feeding Infants and Toddlers study was a survey of adult caregivers (18 years or older) caring for children under 4 years of age in the United States. All participants provided informed consent at study enrollment and prior to each interview. Before beginning each interview, the interviewer read the consent form aloud to the respondent. The informed consent provided the necessary information in an easy-to-understand format. After the consent form was read, the interviewer asked if the respondent needed clarification on any topics covered on the form and if he or she had any other questions. Once all questions were addressed, the interviewer recorded that he or she received verbal consent from the respondent to proceed with the interview. If the participant declined to participate, the interviewer thanked the individual for her or his time and ended the interview. In addition to the informed consent, we instituted strict procedures in the study protocol to guard against the unauthorized release of information, such as anonymizing cases (e.g., de-identification), restricting access to the data, and securing the data (e.g., encryption). All study methods and procedures were approved by Institutional Review Boards at RTI International, University of Minnesota, Docking Institute of Public Affairs, and Fort Hays State University.
