: The Early Childhood Longitudinal Study - Birth Cohort (ECLS - B) is being conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education, in collaboration with several federal health, education, and human services agencies. Written informed consent was obtained for all participants in the ECLS-B by NCES. This study was conducted according to the guidelines laid down in the Declaration of Helsinki. Administrative permissions were required by NCES to access the raw data which does not compromise anonymity or confidentiality or breach local data protection laws as the dataset does not contain any direct or indirect identifiers. Researchers interested in utilizing the data applied for a license and were granted permission by NCES to access the restricted-use data set without identifiers based on the purpose of the data access. The secondary data-analysis study presented in this paper utilized a small subset of the restricted-use ECLS-B data and was approved by the Columbia University IRB.
