: Approval to recruit human participants into the study was granted by the Muhimbili University Research and Ethics Committee (MUHAS-REC-09-2020-369) and permission to interview patients was given by the Medical Officer In-Charge at each respective study site. All participants were approached for their informed consent, and for clients not able to provide written signatures, the full informed consent forms were read aloud in the presence of an interpreter and a witness who also provided signatures in support of the participants’ informed consent. All participants were informed that if they screen positively for a clinically significant depressive episode, they would be referred to the appropriate mental health services.
