Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Permission to undertake the research was secured from the Senate Research Committee of the University of the Western Cape, South Africa (Ref 12/10/19). Participants were provided with information sheet outlining the nature of research and their participation. Participation in the study was voluntary and participants were free to withdraw from the study at any time. All participants were provided with a consent form to sign as an expression of their voluntary participation, and written informed consent was obtained from all, prior to study participation. They were assured of respect, confidentiality and anonymity by removing any identifying information, and using systematic codes to refer to respondents [CitationRef removed, CitationRef removed, CitationRef removed]. There were instances when participants would ask to discuss certain issues off the record or they would wait until the interview ended to raise issues they consider sensitive. We respected their wish for privacy and confidentiality.
