Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This study corresponds to a secondary data analysis of the Hospital Discharge dataset, which is collected by the Health Systems Central Administration (Administração Central do Sistema de Saúde, ACSS). The ACSS provides anonymized data for epidemiological research. The anonymization implies the removal of any personal data. According to the National Ethics Committee for Clinical Research “Personal data that has been rendered anonymous in such a way that the person is not or no longer identifiable is no longer considered personal data and is therefore not covered by article 3 of the General Data Protection Regulation” (ExternalRef removed - page 2). For this reason the study protocol was not submitted to an ethical committee.
