Ethics approval and consent to participate
: All procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and with the 1964 Helsinki declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.Rutgers University-New Brunswick Institutional Review Board (IRB) has approved NJ Safe Schools Program (NJ SS) training-related evaluation activities and incident surveillance as exempt research since they are based on various State of New Jersey (NJ) laws (IRB #021997 W0383). The entire NJ SS Program has IRB approval with an expedited protocol with informed consent with waivers of documentation, e.g., for online surveys. Also, some of NJ SS is exempt since it is based on state law/code such as injury surveillance/occupational epidemiology, or data are analyzed in aggregate after being collected in regular/normal educational settings as part of educational training activities and anonymous evaluation of the training. Our study obtained necessary administrative permissions by NJDOE to analyze these data, which are reported by State of NJ law directly to NJ SS, as a grantee of NJDOE.
