: This study was reviewed by the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) and the University of Minnesota institutional review boards as well as the National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania. The IRBs deemed the study as exempt from human participants’ review since the focus of study was on sexual health in Tanzania and did not require disclosure of personal information. In lieu of written consent, informed consent from each participant was obtained prior to the start of the focus groups. This was done by the facilitator outlining the purpose of the focus group, what topics would be covered, rules of confidentiality, risks and benefits, and by inviting them to ask any questions about the study, and finally by asking each person to indicate their informed consent either by saying “Yes, I consent” or with a nod of the head.
