:
: This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health [Ref number 9276] and the Egyptian Society for Healthcare Development IRB [Ref number 1/2019]. Both review boards approved informed verbal consent to be obtained from all adult study participants and verbal assent to be obtained from children, as many participants were from rural areas and may not be able to read and write. We obtained verbal consent from adult participants (parents and key informants) and married girls ages 16–17 who are considered emancipated minors in this context. An oral assent process was used for unmarried children 10–17 and married children under age 16. This was coupled with oral permission from their parent/guardian. This consent/assent protocol was approved by both review boards.
