: This research obtained ethical approval from the Harvard Office of Human Research Administration (United States) and the institutional review board of the Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (Ethiopia) in adherence to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki as revised in 1983. Verbal consent was obtained for all participants for the household survey, in-depth interviews, and direct observations. The verbal consent procedure was approved by both IRB boards listed due to low literacy in this population.
