: The research work was part of a larger study that had been ethical approval by Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)/Scientific and Ethic Review Unit (SERU) protocol number 2675 titled Integrated Management for sustainable malaria control in East Africa, references number KEMRI/RES/7/3/1.Consent to participate in this study was obtained from each individual participant during interview time. Each participant’s consent to participate was recorded and documented in the household questionnaire after explaining purpose of the study. The introduction section of the questionnaire sought to seek participant’s verbal consent to participate in the study. Participants were required to tick either ‘YES’ if willing to participate in the study or ‘NO’ if not willing to participate [Supplementary file InternalRef removed]. The procedure was ethically acceptable since it did not involve taking participants biological samples. Participant’s rights and confidentiality of their information were guaranteed during the study.
