: Ethical approval of the survey was granted by the National Health Science Research Committee in Malawi (approval number: 2377) and MSF ethical review board (approval number: 1944). The survey was carried out in accordance with the in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations, the Helsinki Declaration [CitationRef removed] and the applicable national and local laws and regulatory requirements.This survey was carried out in close collaboration of Epicentre, MSF and the MoH. Several levels of informed agreement and consent were obtained during this survey, including authorities on all administrative and health levels, head of villages and head of households for participation. Written informed consent was provided by the participants. Participants were informed that participation was voluntary, and they could withdraw at any time. Personal identifiers were not included in the questionnaires to ensure participant confidentiality. There was no financial compensation for participating in this survey.
