: In legal terms, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act does not apply to identifiable data that relate to a deceased person and thus according to Swedish rules no ethical approval is needed for research that only handle this kind of data. The same applies to the use of aggregated data. Permission to obtain Cause of death register data was given by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare while permission to use regional health care data was granted from the Region Skåne County council board of data usage S-KVB (S-KVB nr 2016/201). All data used in this study was anonymized before use. All methods were carried out in accordance with all the relevant guidelines and regulations.
