: The Rwanda Mental Health Survey study protocol was reviewed and approved by the Rwanda National Ethics Committee (RNEC) (Ref: 0061/RNEC/2018 dated February 15, 2018) and the National Institute of Statistics, Rwanda prior to the beginning of data collection activities. All participants, regardless of age were informed about the purpose and benefits of the study, procedures for ensuring confidentiality of the data collected during the study, their rights during the study including the right to decline participation in the study. Written and oral informed consent, in the participant’s native language, was obtained from the participants in the study. For participants under the age of 16, consent was obtained both from the parent/guardian as well as the child. For illiterate participants, consent was obtained from both the participant as well as the participant’s next-of-kin/legally authorized representative. All methods were performed in accordance with relevant guidelines and declarations (e.g. Declaration of Helsinki)).
