: This study was part of a larger study that sought to provide a nutrition education intervention to teenagers with SCD. Ethical approval for the parent study was obtained prior to data collection from the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana Research Ethics Board. All procedures undertaken under this study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana. All procedures of this study were conducted according to the guidelines and regulations laid down in the Declaration of Helsinki. All participants indicated their willingness to participate by completing an informed consent form.
