: The ethical approval to conduct the study was obtained from University of South Africa (UNISA) School of Science (SoS) ethics review committee with reference number: 2021/CSET/SOS/039. Since the data provided to the authors (by the EPHI) do not contain any personal identifiers, the anonymity of the participants was assured. All the analyses and methods, including the waiver of informed consent that was approved by the SoS ethics review committee, were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. In addition, the 2011 EMIS protocol was approved by the steering committee which was led by the EHNRI and blood samples were taken from all children under five years of age in every household per WHO guidelines after obtaining consent from the parent/guardian of the child.
