Our sample were given opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on any issue relating to the study before data collection. This was done to prevent issues of dishonesty. Those who agreed to take part in the study signed or thumb printed the informed consent forms before data was collected. Some questionnaires were self-administered whilst others were completed with the help of the researchers. Additionally, the methods for the study ensured that there was no harm in any way to the sample during data collection and they were assured of confidentiality. They were also informed of the voluntary nature of the study participation or withdrawal without any negative consequences. The study also ensured that privacy of the sample was respected and no act compromised their privacy. For deaf persons who were under 18 years, assent and written informed consent was obtained from either of their parents/guardians before data collection. They were also taken through the ethical procedures outlined above.
