Declarations
:
: The study was granted ethical approval by the research and ethics committee at Makerere University School of Public Health and Uganda National Council for Science and Technology. Every participant gave written informed consent after the interviewer had told them about the study purpose, risks, benefits, compensation and voluntary participation and withdrawal from the study. For those below 16 years, informed consent was taken from a parent. The interviews were held in the most private way possible, such that even if they were in one’s home, the most private but comfortable location was found, usually in the compound. Confidentiality was also observed, including in data storage. This paper does not include data that can reveal respondents’ identities. All research was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects.
