: All procedures were conducted in accordance with the Guidelines for Animal Care and Use of Hokkaido University and were approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee of the Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Hokkaido University (permit number: JU17007). Permission to capture raccoons was obtained from the Ministry of the Environment, as part of the feral raccoon control program. Permission to capture raccoon dogs for academic use was obtained from the Hokkaido Government.
