Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Before participation, a written consent form was read and translated for farmers to confirm participation in the study or otherwise. Farmers who could read and write were given consent forms to confirm participation or otherwise. Verbal consent was obtained from farmers who could neither read nor write. Since no clinical data were collected, verbal consent was approved by the Ethics Review Committee, Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Consultancy Services (IRaCS), University for Development Studies. This paper is extracted from a larger study (Master of Philosophy thesis titled “Assessing ecosystem-based farm management practices in the Kassena-Nankana area: a study of government and community managed irrigation schemes”), which had approval from the Ethics Review Committee. Approval for the study was granted in 2015. The Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) and the two local authorities (Kasena-Nankana Municipal and Kasena-Nankana West Districts) under which the study was conducted also gave approvals.
