: This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The local Ethics Committee named “Comitato Etico dell’Area Vasta Emilia Nord” approved the study (in-house prot. n.1275/2020/OSS/IRCCSRE). Participants signed informed consent forms and privacy/confidentiality agreements before data collection. The participants were not offered any incentive, except for providing them an opportunity to contribute to generating knowledge and benefiting patients in the hospital’s care. In particular, we did not interview patients who were engaged in a psychological path of elaboration on the trauma related to COVID-19. This psychological path was not a “standard” intervention for processing the experiences associated with a virus or a disease but provided for the elaboration of the traumatic aspects associated with assistance. Our interviews could have created the conditions for the reactivation of those experiences. At the same time, we did not want to give up interviewing patients who had been discharged but who until the time of the interviews did not know how they would react psychologically.
