Ethics approval and consent to participate
: Ethical clearance has been obtained from the Institute Academic, Research Publications and Ethics Committee (IARPEC) in Tanzania, reference number ORCI/Researching/10/Vol.8/139. Informed consent was read to all study participants (Additional file ). Everyone signed the consent form and consented to having samples collected and being interview prior to the study starting. Women who tested HPV-positive were traced at home and informed of the results and will be treated in accordance with the standard of care in Tanzania. Additionally, all women who took part in the study were encouraged to attend follow-up screening to ensure they stay healthy.
