Ethics approval and consent to participate
: This project was considered to be a Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) continuous improvement exercise. Therefore, approval was sought from the central Research Governance Team at HIS, who provide oversight for research activities within the organisation by implementing the Research Governance Framework for Health and Community Care. External ethical approval was not considered necessary. In accordance with HIS research governance policies, measures were taken to ensure confidentiality. The interviewer provided participants with an information sheet and asked them to give written consent prior to being interviewed.
