: The Ethical Review Board of Biomedical Research at the National Autonomous University of León (FWA00004523/IRB00003342) approved the study. Written informed consent was obtained from the participants before collecting data. WHO guidelines on how to conduct research at VAW were followed [CitationRef removed]. Trained female staff with experiences collecting data on violence against women constituted the research team. In-depth interviews and surveys were conducted in rooms were privacy and confidentiality were assured. Informants participating in the qualitative data collection received 5 dollars as compensation for their transportation to the site where the interview was conducted. After completing the interview, the participants received contact information to the main author and the research assistant in case the participant would have questions or wanted to withdraw their participation afterward.
