: Ethical clearance was initially obtained from Wolaita Sodo University, Institutional review board (IRB) (ref. Number: IRB/205/14). Then a letter of support was taken from South Omo Zone Health Department (SOZHD) and the Jinka town Health Office. Before data collection, a brief introduction regarding breast cancer and breast self-examination was discussed. We explained the consent to the women in their local language and got permission. An informed consent statement for all women, including the illiterate, was obtained from their legal representative and included. We also received written informed consent from the women. All methods were also carried out following relevant guidelines and regulations.
