: Ethical approval was obtained from the institutional review board of Bahir Dar University, college of medicine and health sciences, with an ethical approval number of CMHS/IRB 01008. A formal letter of support and permission was written to both public and private hospital managers from Bahirdar University, College of Medicine and Health Science, Academic and Research Director’s Bureau. All the procedures for the ethical evaluation of this study followed the Declaration of Helsinki-Ethical Principles for medical research involving human subjects. The purpose of the study was clarified, and written informed consent was obtained from all study participants; for those who were less than eighteen years old, written informed consent was obtained from both study participants and their families. For those mothers with no formal education,written informed consent was taken from their legal guardians of all subjects. All the information was kept confidential throughout the study by using codes instead of names and other personal identifiers, and the study participant had the right to refuse at any time during the study.
