Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The Chair of the Ethics Committee in the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Southampton was contacted with regards to guidance on ethics approval of this study. The advice was that studies based on educational evaluation, such as this one, do not require ethics committee approval. Participation in the PrOSCEs was self-selected, entirely optional and therefore consent to participate was implied via social media confirmation and physical attendance to each PrOSCE. Respondents to the survey consented in writing to having their anonymised data used for research purposes. This took the form of a statement at the end of the optional survey to which respondents had to agree in order to submit their data; any respondents who chose not to agree to this did not successfully submit their data and were therefore not included in the study.
